Steffi Klenz is a German born emerging photographer based in London with interests in architecture and the built environment. In her talk she will examine the concepts behind her different series which involve critical exploration of boundaries, the notion of place and displacement. Klenz is particularly drawn to spaces of the city that exist outside of classification. Even when buildings dominate her frames, the agenda is much more complex and rich with interpretative possibilities - political and social signifiers or an index of an experience and a marker for lives lived.
Steffi received her MA in photography from the Royal College of Art in 2005. She has exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions in the UK and abroad and recently won the “New Talent Award” for the most promising fine-art photographer in Germany. She is currently nominated for the German Merck Prize with her series “Nonsuch”, which will be announced in April 2009.
